The statue, carried out in 1902 per George Engrand, Airois of origin, represents " a woman of the people holding of a hand the national flag and other a sword in an attitude of pride and audacity ". On the principal face of the pedestal are engraved the weapons of the city and an inscription: " the town of Surface to the children died for the fatherland ". On the side faces, are registered the trente-neuf names of the soldiers died during the Crimean Wars, of Italy, of Algeria, of Madagascar and 1870-1871...
