History of a mill...
Drievenmeulen dates from second half of XVIIIème century and was installed in Somain. It presents a lengthened silhouette and has a solid pivot, characteristic of old the rope twister with oil. Its oil mill was transformed into flour-milling at the time of its installation with Steenvoorde in 1901. Its wings actuate two grinding stones by a system of cast iron gears. The large wheel in elm carries the inscription as old Flemish " M.D.CC.LXVI - Ioannes the Seine ende M.A.F. Clenewerck, syn huisvrouwe, hebben my doen maecken door c.f. Bruneel " (1766 - Jean the Seine and M.A.F. Clenewerck, his wife, made me build by c.f. Bruneel). Repurchased to the Dereeper family by the Municipality of Stenvoorde which entirely restored it, this superb mill is one of most authentic of the area. Its name comes from the " Driever " which was the clerk charged to collect the grain in the peasants and to bring back the flour to them.
